Unique Places to Stay in St. Augustine

Our guide to some of the most unique places to stay in St. Augustine, Florida's oldest city!

Discover unique places to stay in St. Augustine, from beachfront condos and quaint bed and breakfasts to lush hotels and even waterfront campsites. We’ve chosen the best spots to be able to explore the perfect mix of adventure, scenery, and relaxation in Florida’s oldest city.

The best way to choose where you want to stay in St. Augustine is to base your decision on what you want to do on your visit, and if you have a vehicle to get around in. The beaches are further out and would require transportation for the most part (see our tip about the St. Augustine KOA below).

If you don’t have a car and are exploring on foot, it is best to stay within the city.

Stay in a rental right on the St. Augustine coast

If you’re a beach lover, St. Augustine is a coastal paradise with plenty of beachfront places to rent right along the shores of Anastasia Island. These rentals give travelers easy access to the sparkling waters and endless stretches of white sandy beaches that line the northeast coast of Florida. It’s the ideal spot to soak up the sun and enjoy the natural beauty of the Florida’s historic coast!

These rentals are ideal for families traveling together as they frequently offer multiple rooms and larger kitchen areas.

Things to do on Anastasia Island

Go camping right on the beach

For campers and true outdoor enthusiasts, Anastasia State Park sits right along the coast and is one of the truly unique places to stay in St. Augustine. This coastal gem offers a blend of adventure and serenity with its stunning cinnamon-colored beaches, miles of scenic trails, and tons of secluded RV and tent camping spots. The park also offers bike and golf cart rentals for easy exploring, and water lovers can rent canoes and kayaks to enjoy the tranquil waters.

This is one of the most popular campgrounds in Florida. If you want to camp here, the sites book out 11 months in advance!

If campgrounds at Anastasia State Park are full, the St. Augustine Beach KOA is just minutes away. This KOA offers a convenient and family-friendly camping experience, with cozy cabins, RV sites, and tent spaces, all very close to the historic downtown.

If you stay at the St. Augustine KOA, the hop-on trolley will pick you up right at the campground check-in so you don’t have to pay to park for the day!

Stay in one of the bayfront hotels

If you prefer the nightlife, pick a spot to stay directly in the St. Augustine historic district. For great bay views, we recommend either the Hilton St. Augustine Historic Bayfront or the Best Western Bayfront. Both are right along the main street on Avenida Menendez, so you can walk to all the restaurants and attractions. They also typically include a free hot breakfast. And as you can see, they both go all out during the St. Augustine Nights of Lights!

Or choose a quaint Bed & Breakfast in St. Augustine

For a more intimate experience, choose one of the many quaint B&B’s lining Spanish Street and Cordova Street. All of the restaurants, shops, and sights are within walking distance since you are still in the heart of the city, but it is quieter in this area. We’ve stayed at the adults-only Spanish Street Inn and will definitely be returning soon, the breakfast was delicious (and they had gluten free items for me!).

Splurge on a luxury hotel in St. Augustine

If you are visiting St. Augustine for a special occasion, the Casa Monica Resort and Spa by Marriott is exceptional, definitely worth the splurge for a night or two. We’ve stayed for an anniversary trip and we will never forget it, the service here is spectacular! The Casa Monica is within walking distance to the fort and St. George Street, and is next to Flagler College and the Lightner Museum.
