Honolulu is a fantastic place to explore, but it’s even better if you go with your partner! There are many exciting and romantic things for a couple to check out on the island. For an active day, spend it hiking to Manoa Falls or Diamond Head, kayaking, yoga at the beach, or taking a surfing lesson! There’s an endless amount of interesting activities to keep you moving.
For a relaxing day, hit the beach to enjoy the sand and sun! If Waikiki is a bit too crowded for you, head just a little further down the shore to Fort DeRussy Beach, one of the most famous places to visit in Honolulu. Or, check out the breathtaking white-sand Lanikai Beach on the east side of the island in beautiful Kailua.
For a day out, head up to the North Shore. Stop at Aoki’s Shave Ice in Haleiwa for a delicious treat, drive along the coast, hike to Waimea Falls at the gorgeous Waimea Valley Nature Preserve, and finish the day watching the sunset together at Sunset Beach.

Cannon Beach, along the northern Oregon Coast, offers a quiet, romantic beach getaway.
Despite being a quaint beach town, there’s tons of things to do in Cannon Beach with your partner. For example, explore the tide pools along the beach at low tide or, if you’re visiting during summer, keep an eye out for the puffins that live on top of the beach’s iconic sea stack Haystack Rock.
For a romantic end to your day on the beach, have a campfire directly on the sand and watch as the sun sinks below the Pacific Ocean, creating dazzling colors in the sky.
If you’re looking for more adventurous activities, there’s tons of incredible hiking opportunities that offer views of the dramatic coastal landscape. Located at the southernmost tip of the continental U.S., Key West is a well-known vacationer’s paradise. And for couples looking for that perfect beach destination, the Florida Keys do not disappoint. From intimate dive bars to sunset celebrations, Key West has something for every couple to enjoy!
Start your day in Key West with an invigorating climb to the top of the Key West Lighthouse for a bird’s eye view of the Gulf of Mexico. San Luis Obispo, California
Located along the Central Coast of California, San Luis Obispo (or SLO as it’s called by locals) is one of the most romantic beach towns in the United States that offers a mix of culture and outdoors.
Downtown San Luis Obispo is a perfect starting point for a romantic trip. Here you can check out the Bubblegum Alley, learn about the local history at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, one of the city’s top historic landmarks, and do some shopping in local boutiques.
SLO is located near some of the best beaches in Central California. You reach many of them via public transportation from downtown San Luis Obispo or by a quick Uber. For example, you can go for some surfing on Avila Beach or head to Pismo Beach where you can ride a dune buggy and enjoy a wide sandy beach.
The city also boasts amazing hikes. SLO is surrounded by the Nine Sisters, a chain of dormant volcanic cones that present a great opportunity for hiking and mountain biking. San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan, Puerto Rico is an excellent choice for a romantic getaway. This U.S. territory is located in the Caribbean, so you’ll enjoy warm tropical weather all through the year!
Walk hand in hand along the El Paseo del Morro National Recreational Trail, one the top attractions of San Juan. Admire the panoramic views of the historic city walls, the coastline, and the sparkling sea. Spend some time relaxing in one of Old San Juan’s plazas and listen to the tinkling waters of a fountain — Fuente Raíces is particularly gorgeous.

Hilton Head Island is one of the best cities in the southern U.S. for couples. With its beautiful Atlantic beaches, lush golf courses, and charming restaurants, this South Carolina town is a perfect getaway for those looking for a romantic getaway.
If you’re looking for a fun activity to do with your partner, Hilton Head Island has over 20 championship golf courses to choose from. If golf isn’t your thing, the island has over 60 miles of trails for hiking and biking. Many of the beaches have sand that is packed down nicely, great for riding bicycles.

South Beach, Florida
You may not think of Florida off-hand when brainstorming top couple destinations, but South Beach, Miami is the perfect spot, especially if you can visit in off or shoulder seasons (anything but spring).
South Beach is part of Miami Beach, a barrier island that you access from Miami via a long highway. It’s easy to get to from the Miami Airport using public transportation and South Beach has great local public transportation as well, so a rental car is not necessary.
What makes South Beach so romantic is that the beaches are pristine, and the nightlife is so fun for couples to enjoy. Think: endless date nights. Some of the best things to do in South Beach for couples include booking a private picnic on the beach with a company such as The Picnic Popup, visit the World Erotic Art Museum with unique pieces of art with erotic themes, and even go for a bike ride together. Free bikes are available with CitiBike!

San Francisco, California
While not commonly referred to as a “beach town”, San Francisco definitely has some amazing beaches that are perfect for a traveling couple. With borders in both the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean, the city is almost completely surrounded by water.
San Francisco also has one of the most-visited national recreation areas in the country, perfect for outdoorsy couples who enjoy hiking, picnicking, mountain-biking, or strolling beneath Redwood trees, some of the tallest trees in the world.
Ocean Beach is the most well-known beach in San Francisco, bordering Golden Gate Park. This is a great location for an afternoon picnic in the sand among the giant boulders that dot the beach, watching the surfers catch a wave from the safety of the shore. There are 16 fire pits for nightly beachside bonfires located here, perfect for snuggling up once the sun goes down.
Baker Beach is known for some sections being “clothing optional”, which could be a fun way to spend the afternoon outdoors in the buff! This beach has fantastic views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Of course, San Francisco has mouth-watering restaurants throughout the city. Head to the Fisherman’s Wharf for some amazing chowder, where couples can sip a cocktail while admiring the antics of the crowd-pleasing sea lions. Or grab freshly-caught oysters right from the bay at the Ferry Building Marketplace, a natural aphrodisiac (wink).

Kona, Hawaii
Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is an excellent choice for a romantic getaway, offering the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
If you’re looking to unwind together, there’s plenty of stunning beaches to enjoy. For example, the secluded Manini’owali Beach offers soft white sand and turquoise water, teeming with tropical fish and sea turtles. Kahalu’u Beach should also be on your bucketlist- it once was the home to Hawaiian royals and is now largely considered one of the best places to snorkel on the island.
If you’re instead looking for something a bit more adventurous to do together, consider kayaking into Kealakekua Bay, the largest Marine Life Conservation District in the entire state and regarded as one of the best places to see spinner dolphins on the Big Island. Alternatively, for a once-in-a-lifetime experience together, consider snorkeling with manta rays in Kona, where you’ll be taken out into a bay and led by knowledgeable guides, as these gentle giants swoop and feast just inches below you. A great place to stay is the nearby Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa, which has an amazing deck for viewing the manta rays.
Cap off your travels with a trip to Mauna Kea, which, as measured from the seafloor to its summit, is the tallest mountain on the planet. Watch the sunset above the clouds and then stargaze from the summit- because of the high elevation and limited light pollution, you’ll be able to see thousands upon thousands of stars.

30A, Florida
Located along the Florida Panhandle, South Walton, also known as 30A is home to 26 miles of pristine white beaches that are split into 16 separate neighborhoods. They each cater to different types of travelers. Families often visit Watercolor Beach, but Santa Rosa Beach and Rosemary Beach are favorites for romance.
Couples usually stay a week and enjoy all the fun things to do in 30A, from boutique shopping, to visiting the studios of famous local artists such as Justin Gaffrey, taking a cocktail making class at the vodka distillery, and paddleboarding along the coastal dune lakes.
However one of the most romantic things to do is having a luxury picnic and bonfire on the beach. Hire ‘Pic-nic’, a local company that will organize a handcrafted table, blankets, lounging pillows, flowers, candles, and a choice of charcuterie boards for you to enjoy together. If you want to make the experience even more special, choose to add a guitar player or two and let them serenade you into sunset.
If you want to extend the experience and stargaze on the beach, then add the bonfire option. They will include tiki lamps, a fire pit, and even all the ingredients for s’mores.
The Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach is the best place for couples to stay This is the only adults-only hotel in 30A and was even voted the “Most Romantic Hotel in Florida”. There is a luxury spa, complimentary bicycles and a rooftop pool.
