The Best Family Activities in Punta Cana
Punta Cana isn’t just a destination; it’s a playground of tropical delights for families. Get ready to bond, laugh, and create memories that will have your family reminiscing about this extraordinary adventure for years to come! Here’s a lineup of family-friendly activities in Punta Cana for all ages.
Go Zip-Lining at the Bavaro Adventure Park
The Bavaro Adventure Park is located in the Bavaro resort section of Punta Cana. This park is designed for all ages and walks of life, making it a fantastic destination for families.
Not just an attraction, this park creates an immersive experience that combines the best of adventure, nature, and the Dominican culture. Whether you’re traveling with little ones interested in splashing in the lagoon or adventurous teens looking for thrills, there’s something for everyone!

You can choose what areas you’d like to visit once at the park. The zip-lining course, horseback riding areas, and adventurous off-road buggies each provide a thrilling experience. The cool lagoon, calm lazy river, and the waterfall pool are spaces to relax and reconnect with loved ones in a peaceful environment. With options from single activities to full day combos, it’s easy to decide the right fit for your family adventure!
We each had a different favorite area of the park. David and I loved the lazy river, but the blue lagoon cenote was breathtaking. Emily liked the ziplining and Austin enjoyed the waterfall pool and traditional Dominican lunch! If you only have time for one of these family activities in Punta Cana, we suggest the Bavaro Adventure Park.

Take an Excursion to Cap Cana
Cap Cana is arguably the most beautiful part of the Dominican Republic. This luxurious and expansive resort area is known for its stunning natural beauty, upscale amenities, and world-class facilities. The turquoise beaches with powdery white sand truly bring to mind “paradise”. Luxurious accommodations and private villas dot the waterfront, and a Jack Nicklaus golf course and state-of-the-art marina are the perfect areas for spending time when you are not in the water.

Cap Cana is strategically situated on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic just a short drive from the Punta Cana International Airport. This prime location offers easy access to the pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and lush landscapes that define the Caribbean.
If you aren’t staying in this area, there are many excursions offering trips to Cap Cana from local resorts. We recommend booking through BD Experience for the best options regarding knowledge, safety, and availability. Offering everything from half-day snorkeling tours to full days spent on a private island, there is definitely an excursion out there that is a perfect fit for your family adventures!
Enjoy the Array of Activities at an All-Inclusive Resort
All-inclusive vacations present a great option for families traveling to the Dominican Republic for several key reasons. Notably they provide cost savings with a single upfront price covering accommodation, meals, beverages, activities, and sometimes even airfare. The convenience of having everything included in one package is advantageous to those seeking a hassle-free and relaxed travel experience.

Also the prospect of unlimited food and drinks (some including alcoholic beverages) can lead to significant cost savings. And the variety of activities offered, such as water sports, fitness classes, cultural events, and nightly shows, makes all-inclusive packages especially attractive for families and groups with varied interests.
Swim in a Lush & Tropical Cenote
Cenotes are natural sinkholes or underwater caves filled with crystal-clear freshwater, creating unique and beautiful swimming spots. Punta Cana has a variety of cenotes (pronounced seh-NOH-tays) that are worth a trip to explore as a family.
Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve is home to 12 freshwater lagoons and cenotes, each with its own unique ecosystem. Visitors can swim in some of the lagoons, and others are dedicated to conservation efforts for endemic species native to the Dominican Republic.

Hoyo Azul, also known as the “Blue Hole,” is another natural cenote that is about 46 feet (14 meters) deep. Located by following trails through lush vegetation, Hoyo Azul can only be visited by purchasing entry to Scape Park in Cap Cana. This hidden oasis is crystal-clear and refreshingly cool to swim in during the warm Caribbean afternoons!
The Best Time to Visit Punta Cana
The best time to visit Punta Cana is during the dry season, from late November to late March when sunny days and warm temperatures create optimal conditions for beach activities. This period minimizes the risk of hurricanes with hurricane season beginning in June and ending mid-November. However, this is also the peak travel times for tourists and you may experience crowds.
For a quieter experience, consider traveling during the shoulder season of October and November. Be mindful of spring break which typically occurs in March and April if you want to avoid an influx of livelier clientelle!
